Luigia Carlucci Aiello

Full professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Luigia Carlucci Aiello has been at Rome University La Sapienza since 1982, at the Antonio Ruberti Department of Computer, Automatic and Management Engineering (DIAG, Dipartimento di Ingegneria informatica automatica e gestionale). She is Chair for CCL and co-ordinates the Doctorate program in Computer Engineering; from 2006 to 2010 she was Director of the Department of Computer Science and Systems, now called DIAG; from 2010 to 2013 she was President of the Faculty of Engineering, Computer Science and Statistics.

She founded the DIS-DAG research group on Artificial Intelligence and conducts research on artificial intelligence (knowledge representation and automated reasoning) and its applications. More recently she has been involved in cognitive robotics.

Founder, first Chairman and now honorary member of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence. Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence(AAAI) and of the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence (ECCAI), she is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI). In 2002 she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Linköping (Sweden). In 2009 Luigia Carlucci Aiello received the Donald Walker Distinguished Service Award “for her substantial contributions and extensive service to the field of Artificial Intelligence throughout her career”. In 2014 she received a similar award from ECCAI.
