Erina Ferro

Erina Ferro got a first-class degree in Information Sciences at the University of Pisa in 1975. She has been with the National Research Council (NRC) since 1976, at the Alessandro Faedo ISTI (Institute of Science and Information Technology) of the research area of the NRC in Pisa. She currently holds the role of Research Director and is manager of the “Wireless Communications” research laboratory (WN Lab) of the Institute that she works at.
Since 1979 she has been working on digital communication via satellite, a sector in which she was awarded two patents, in 1989 and 1996. Her main interests are research activities in the field of digital wireless transmissions, the evaluation of the performance of satellite transmission systems, and interconnections between satellite networks and terrestrial wireless networks. She is also an expert on terrestrial wireless communications and on sensor networks, as applied in Ambient Assisted Living and e-health.
Dr Ferro is the author of more than 100 works published in magazines and at international congresses; she is Associated Editor of the “International Journal of Communication Systems” and co-author of several books on telecommunications.
