Guido Tonelli is an ordinary professor of General Physics at the University of Pisa and associate researcher at the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN). He researches elementary particles and has conducted experiments at CERN (Switzerland) and Fermilab (USA).

Guido has devoted a large part of his professional life to researching the Higgs-Boson. Since 1993 he has helped design and build the CMS experiment, a detector built on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. He was International Coordinator for the experiment between 2010 and 2011 and in this role he presented, in December 2011, the first evidence of the presence of Higgs-Boson in the LHC data with a mass of 125GeV. Given that this evidence was confirmed with the 2012 data, the formal announcement of the discovery was made the following July. Guido is the author of over 450 scientific papers in international magazines.
