In January 2006, after extensive experience in traditional media (radio, TV, press), Giusva Branca and Raffaele Mortelliti, journalists from Reggio Calabria, decided to create something totally new in their area by founding Urba, the association which has since then been publishing the real time online newspaper strill.it
As a trailblazer in its field and with over 35,000 readers per day, strill.it has long since been acknowledged as the leading online newspaper in Calabria and, most importantly, by the millions of Calabresi around the world.
In order to pursue and preserve total and unrestricted independence, Urba also organizes Tabularasa, a festival in Calabria hosting approximately 130 guests including writers, journalists, intellectuals, musicians, actors, and leading members of cultural circles. In 2015, the festival will celebrate its sixth edition.
Tabularasa’s international prize Strillaerischia honours those who have risked their own lives in order to serve information and truth. Since 2013 the Prize is assigned in Lipari in the month of July.
