Paolo Tomassini has a PhD in Theoretical Physics, has been a permanent researcher at the NRC and the INFN [National Institute of Nuclear Physics] and then a scientific consultant and physics teacher in a science high school. He is now working in the field of the applications of ultra-intense lasers to accelerate particles and generate ultra-bright X rays/gamma rays, collaborating with national and European research bodies. He is one of the advocates of the “Extreme Light Infrastructure-Nuclear Physics” project that will create a research structure financed by the European Union for the production of gamma rays using lasers and electron accelerators. Paolo Tomassini (http://tomassini.altervista.org) is also a photographer. He has taken care of the photographic component of several art catalogues and mainly does scenic and conceptual photography. He has run some photography courses, including the course at La Limonaia Scienza Viva in 2013 entitled “Course on photography and the physics of light”.
