Daniele Benedettelli holds a Master’s degree in Automation Engineering and is known across the globe for his creations with LEGO® MINDSTORMS®. His videos on YouTube have received over 5 million views and his robots have been displayed in many events and conferences and have featured on many TV shows worldwide.
He has worked with The LEGO Company since 2006 as expert for the testing and development of LEGO MINDSTORMS products. In 2012, he became a member of the LEGO MINDSTORMS EXPERT PANEL, a team of 12 experts that help LEGO Company test the new LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 product.
He has written three books that teach how to build and programme LEGO MINDSTORMS robots:
• Creating Cool LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Robots (Apress, 2008) which also includes JohnNXT, a replica of Johnny 5, the robot from the film “Short Circuit”
• LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Thinking Robots (No Starch Press, 2009) includes instructions on how to build and programme a simplified version of the famous Rubik cube’s solving robot, LEGO Rubik Utopia.
• His most recent book The LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Laboratory (No Starch Press, 2013) sold over 10000 copies in the last months of 2013, and it has been translated into four languages.
His LEGO portfolio includes autonomous robots, control systems, robots with Artificial Intelligence capable of learning from experience, scale models of industrial automated systems and an automated robotic football system; LEGONARDO, anthropomorphic portrayer robot; Cyclops, a complex robot that can walk, gesticulate, speak, understand spoken language and interact with people by perceiving faces and gestures, and is fully remote controlled by way of a wearable LEGO exoskeleton.
Daniele currently works as LEGO free-lance designer, LEGO educator and secondary-school teacher.
In his little free time, he plays the piano. Together with his brother Alessandro, he has composed the rock opera “Orpheus” as well as music for films, short films and TV spots.
