Antonello Giacomelli was born in Prato, is 52 years of age, is married and has three children.

A journalist, he started his career with the broadcaster TVR Teleitalia before moving on to the Cecchi Gori Group collaborating with Videomusic and Canale 10, where he became a director.

He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Metastasio theatre, leading it to its position as Tuscany’s civic theatre for prose.

Deputy Mayor of Prato from 1999 to June 2004, he was heavily involved in the reform of local public services in the field of networks and energy.

In February 2004 he became regional secretary of Margherita and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies at the by-election for the constituency of Scandicci.

Re-elected in the subsequent general election he became a member of the defence committee.

With the birth of the Democratic Party he became a member of the national executive, head of the Political Secretariat of Dario Franceschini and, along with Goffredo Bettini, Andrea Orlando and Vinicio Peluffo, a member of the coordination group that directs the constituent phase of the Democratic Party at the national level.

In the current parliament he is vice chairman of the PD group in the House.
