Computers have always been used for playing games: in 1951 there was tic-tac-toe on the Ferranti, in 1962 SpaceWar on the PDP-1 was already a fully fl edged interactive video game.
Whether it was a PC or a computer initially disguised within an arcade games machine then later in a home games console, video games form one of the main chapters in the history of computing: an ongoing technological race, an ever expanding market of all ages and an astronomical turnover.
They are also the latest step in that process that, starting with the oral narrative and developing through the theatre, the cinema and cartoons, from time to time adds a new dimension to the way that stories are told and enjoyed: with video games there is also a direct participation in the lives of the characters.
The least you can do is to explore it by visiting the Museum and playing the games. Additional information: hmr.di.unipi.it
