The exhibition DESIGNforIF came into being from collaboration with the undergraduate degree course in
design at the Università degli Studi, Florence.
Students were asked to take part in the Internet Festival gadget project and twenty of their projects were chosen to feature in the exhibition during the workshop run by Prof.ssa Laura Giraldi.
Using 3D printers and recycled materials the students created models and prototypes which are on display at
Bastione Sangallo.
Of these twenty projects just one was chosen for production and is currently available for users of the Internet Festival. Organised by Prof. Massimo Ruffi li (acting Dean for the University Design Campus), the DesingforIF project aims to bring an explicitly new type of design to the communication sector of the Internet Festival: objects that are intentionally simple and traditional though modernised, functional and explicitly evocative of the Internet Festival, objects that are simultaneously able to combine the aesthetic and the immaterial with technical innovation, just like the web 2.0.
These models and prototypes are the result of the happy combination of creativity and technology. Many were
self-produced at the local level, using a minimum amount of resources to promote sustainability. The gadgets are
striking, high quality and innovative in terms of their immaterial and communication features, reflecting
contemporary lifestyles.
