Freelance journalist and specialist in the Chinese media, Emma was the first Italian reporter to work for the online publication of China Daily, the communist party paper. She has been a reporter for the press agency Xinhua and a freelance correspondent for many Italian and international publications. She has a PhD from the “Sapienza” University of Rome about Chinese freelance journalists. She has been a visiting researcher at the China Media Project at the University of Hong Kong, has taught at the University of Milan and coordinated the European University Centre at the Beijing Daxue (University of Beijing). In 2011 she won the “Maria Grazia Cutuli” journalism award. Since 2009 she has been writing a column analysing the Chinese press on Agichina24. She has published Ho servito il popolo cinese. Media e potere nella Cina di oggi (I have served the Chinese public. Media and power in China today) (Brioschi, 2012) and edited the volume Media in Cina oggi (The Media in China Today) (FrancoAngeli, 2010). She has spent over 5 years living in China – to work and study – between 1999 and the present day.
