Sergio Boccadutri was born and grew up in Palermo. At 16, after years of living and breathing politics in his family, he discovered a passion for it, first in the student movements of the 90s, then as a activist and occupying various roles in left-wing youth organisations.
In 2006 he became treasurer of Rifondazione comunista [Communist Refoundation], which he would leave in 2010 after also managing the company Mrc Spa, the publisher of the daily newspaper Liberazione, as sole director.
At the end of 2010 he was elected treasurer of the Sel [Left Ecology Freedom party], on whose rolls he would be elected as a deputy in the Lazio 1 ward. At the end of June 2014 he resigned from all roles in the Sel and joined the Pd [Democratic Party] group.
During his parliamentary activity he proposed a board of inquiry to cast full light on the transfer of Alitalia in 2008. On 8th January 2014 he presented before the House a proposal for a law on a reduction in the use of cash and the promotion of the use of electronic means of payment to reduce money laundering and tax evasion, presenting a motion on 16th May that year that put pressure on the government to campaign in the institutions of the European Union for the abolition of the 500 Euro note.
