Stefano Chessa got his degree and PhD in IT from the University of Pisa in 1994 and 1999 respectively. Since 2000 he has been a researcher in the IT Department of the University of Pisa. Since 2003 he has also been a research associate at the Science and Computer Technology Institute of the NRC.

He has taken part in various international projects (SatNex, SMEPP, InterMedia, PERSONA, universAAL, and RUBICON).

At present he is taking part in the European project Engaged, and is coordinator of the research group of the University of Pisa for the European project DOREMI. He is co-author of more than 100 articles published in magazines and at international conferences and has been a member of the programming committee of many international conferences.

In the period 2011-13 he was president of the organising committee of the international competition EvAAL regarding assistive technologies. His main areas of interest for research are in the area of the Internet of things, networks of sensors, assistive technologies, automatic recognition of human activities, and localisation.
